The Johnson Institute is thrilled to announce an upcoming partnership with the Supreme Court Historical Society and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, Supreme Court and My Hometown. This engaging federal court program will take place in Montgomery, Alabama from July 14-18, 2025. It is free and open to high school students in Montgomery and surrounding areas.
The Supreme Court and My Hometown program is an immersive, in-person civics education program for students in grades 9-11. Each program is sponsored and supported by the local federal court in partnership with the Supreme Court Historical Society. The program offers a unique opportunity to explore the history, decisions, and legacy of the Supreme Court and the judicial branch through the lens of a local case, Frontiero v. Richardson (1973).
Attendees of Hometowns can look forward to an engaging lineup of activities. Students will engage with federal judges, attorneys, historians, professors, and community members to investigate Frontiero v. Richardson and gain an in-depth understanding of how it moved through the federal court system. As a culminating activity, the students will create a unique capstone project to educate their community about the impact of the case and the federal court system.
Applications and letters of recommendation are due by March 28, 2025.
